Sally Turberville Smith Counselling

Dipl. Psych, BA Hons UKCP accredited
Relationship and Couples Counsellor

I am an experienced UKCP accredited Transpersonal Integrated Psychotherapist. Integrated means I have studied all the main models of psychotherapy so I am able to flex my approach to suit my clients’ needs and individuality.  Transpersonal means that I am guided in my life and work by an intuitive, heart centred approach that nourishes the soulful and spiritual aspects of our being.

My area of specialism is relationships - whether you are looking to understand yourself and your relationships better or work on a more intimate relationship with a partner.  I am also able to work effectively and compassionately with you or your partner if one or both of you are neurodiverse.

Relationships are possibly one of the hardest yet most rewarding aspects of being a human being and it is inevitable that we will encounter friction and conflict through our differences in personality, sensibility, perception and values.  I believe that how we see ourselves and how we behave in relationships is primarily shaped by our family of origin, attachment style and the challenges we encountered growing up.  Our fears of intimacy and abandonment as well as unprocessed trauma may also mean we have a tendency to close down our hearts and hurt the ones we profess to love the most.

I want to hear your story/ies and my way of working is trauma informed and will be guided by your personality and preferences. I believe the body is a deep source of wisdom and I am interested in creative and intuitive approaches to healing that bypass the conscious or more analytical part of our brains.

Grief and Loss

I am also an experienced grief counsellor and have helped many people transition through this difficult and painful time of loss and adaptation.

Inevitable life events and challenges such as infidelity, divorce, the birth of a child, redundancy, retirement, a serious illness or accident, becoming a parent, re-locating, the menopause, caring for elderly or unwell parents/children can initially trigger intense anxiety and be accompanied by a mixture of conflicted thoughts and feelings.  This inevitably puts added stresses and strains on both our couple dynamic and our own sense of self.  Individual or couple therapy can provide a place to explore and come to terms with what has been happening, helping you honour the time it takes to process and mourn any losses whilst also when you are ready hopefully leading you forwards to a future that you in time will be able to feel a sense of ease or peace in.  There may need to be a ‘letting go’ of someone or something and a movement towards embracing a new identity or life purpose.

Work related stress and burn out, workplace bullying, eating disorders and co-dependency are other areas of specialism.

What to expect

I hope that in working with me you will come to appreciate your unique qualities and sensitivities. (I am also a Nutritionist and yoga Nidra teacher), build greater resilience to life’s inevitable challenges and make more fulfilling choices.  My aim is for you to  experience greater joy and calm within yourself and ultimately a greater sense of love and connection to your partner, family, friends and community.

I offer an initial free 20 minute online exploratory session so that we can both get a sense of each other and whether we feel we would like to work together. I can find out a little bit about you and what you are looking for and you can ask me any questions you might have about therapy and  how I work.  Please also visit my website for more information and my fees.

Whatever your gender, sexuality, race or ethnicity I strive to offer you a non-judgemental place where your whole self is welcomed and as a psychotherapist, I adhere to the ethical codes of practice set out by the UKCP.
