Jacqueline Hayes

Counselling and Psychotherapy

I am an experienced counsellor, psychotherapist, supervisor and researcher.  I work with adults and young people (10+) and am guided by a humanistic approach to my work.

My aim is to provide a safe space for you to start examining what it is that is troubling you, to gain insight, to make better choices, and to ultimately regain a sense of hope, balance, and connection.  I am part of this profession because I have experienced the life-changing power of receiving counselling and psychotherapy, and have witnessed this power many times since in my own clients and those of the trainees I work with.

There are many reasons why someone may seek therapy - from experiences of grief and loss, to traumatic experiences, to feeling ‘not ok’ but not being able to put our finger on why.

Psychotherapy can help us to heal after difficult events, help us to make sense of what is happening in our lives, and empower us to make changes if this is what we want or need. Sometimes, we might just need help with figuring out how to adapt to a change in our circumstances. Here are a few examples of issues I have worked with:

  • Depression and feeling low

  • Anxiety

  • Problematic eating

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Hearing voices

  • Bullying

  • Bereavement

  • Problems at school or work

  • Post-natal depression and anxiety

I have more than 13 years' experience as a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, working with clients of all ages and who come to therapy for different reasons. I am also an experienced supervisor and trainer of psychologists and psychotherapists. I am known in my academic work for the specialist areas of hearing voices, and child and adolescent mental health.

My qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Person-centred Counselling and Psychotherapy (2010)

  • British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited status (2013)

  • Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (2012)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy Level 1 (2017)

  • PhD Psychology (2011), The University of Manchester

  • BA Psychology (2004), The University of Manchester
