Biodynamic Massage and Psychotherapy

Corinna Kitchen is a practitioner in Biodynamic Massage and Psychotherapy at The Open Door clinic.

"There is an innate healing mechanism in the body which dissolves tenseness in the muscles and resolves emotional and psychological conflict on the unconscious and organic level." - Gerda Boyesen Clinical Psychologist (1922-2005). Founder of Biodynamic Psychology.

- Licensed Biodynamic Psychotherapist

- Licensed Biodynamic Massage Therapist

12 Years Clinical Experience

This healing mechanism is called “psycho-peristalsis” - to indicate the body’s natural ability to digest the effects of emotional stress which, if not eliminated, can cause pain and create symptoms in the body. The biodynamic practitioner places a loud-speaker stethoscope on the abdomen of the client in each biodynamic session to re-establish and monitor this natural healing mechanism.

The term biodynamic is connected with the flow of life energy through the body and mind. If this natural flow is disturbed - even by everyday life events and challenges, we can lose our joy - and often unwanted symptoms and patterns of unhealthy behaviour can develop.

Biodynamic therapies work to restore this natural flow, clear the effects of stress, promote self-healing and bring a renewed sense of wellbeing. This can help you find courage for change and challenges, bring relief from pain, support you whilst symptoms subside or simply assist you to discover and experience your essential self.

WHAT IS BIODYNAMIC PSYCHOLOGY?

Biodynamic Psychology and its related therapies was established sixty years ago by Clinical Psychologist, Gerda Boyesen ® (1922-2005) and developed by the Institute of Biodynamic Medicine. The distinguishing aspect of her work was the discovery that the brain-gut axis is the regulator of nervousness and energy in the body and that two innate human survival mechanisms – the ‘fight and flight’ and ‘freeze’ responses – if not deactivated after an event that is perceived as overwhelming (for whatever reason)  - can remain permanently active and adversely affect our emotional and physical wellbeing. Biodynamic Therapy uses a variety of different techniques to normalise this effect and to restore a person to their natural, exuberant, spontaneous self.

By including bodywork, in the form of gentle but effective and targeted biodynamic massage and other protocols, to more traditional psychotherapy, counselling  and psychology services, this holistic healing method not only breaks down the barriers, negative thought processes and ‘mental blocks’ in your mind, but also works to release stress and tension stored in the organs and systems of your body. This cleansing process reconnects you to what is known in Biodynamic Psychology as the ‘Primary Personality’, your vibrant core self, ready willing and able to meet life's challenges, and clears the way towards living an authentic and fulfilling life.

Once engaged, a natural process of healing unfolds. To allow this to happen organically, a series of pre-arranged sessions is recommended to provide you with the time and space to heal and focus.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

The biodynamic environment is warm and comfortable, ensuring a safe and nurturing space.

Each session is tailored to your specific need. Maybe you want to talk about something affecting you mentally or physically or perhaps you have a condition or pain that you need help with. Or, you simply need to relax, stop, rest, feel nurtured and good and let the demands, stresses and strains of life fall away.

Once your needs are understood, articulated and realised, biodynamic treatment can start. We use a loudspeaker stethoscope placed on your abdomen to listen to the bio-feedback - amplified sounds - from the  intelligent and ancient wisdom of your gut - the ‘ second brain’. This feedback provides crucial diagnostic information guides effective treatment.
